When a local quarry needed a larger, more durable feeder hopper for their jaw crusher, replacing it with a new manufactured unit wasn't the most cost-effective solution. Instead, Workman Mobile Welding repurposed a retired haul truck bed into a custom heavy-duty crusher hopper designed to handle the demands of aggregate production.
The project began by modifying the haul truck bed to the required dimensions before designing and fabricating a complete structural support system. Heavy structural steel columns, cross members, and reinforcement were custom-built to support the hopper while distributing the constant impact loads generated during crushing operations.
Every component was measured, fabricated, fitted, and welded on-site to ensure proper alignment with the existing crusher. Additional bracing and gussets were incorporated throughout the structure to increase rigidity and withstand continuous vibration and heavy material loading.
By repurposing an existing haul truck bed, the customer received a durable, cost-effective solution that extended the life of available equipment while avoiding the expense and long lead times associated with purchasing a new hopper.
At Workman Mobile Welding, we specialize in custom steel fabrication, structural welding, heavy equipment repair, and industrial maintenance.
